Immediate loading
Immediate placement of a prosthesis on an implant
What is immediate loading?
Dental implants require a healing period of 3 months before the placement and functioning of the prosthesis. During this period, the patient needs a temporary solution to maintain a normal social life.
In the meantime, we offer temporary solutions. However, they are not always very comfortable. For example, a bonded bridge presents the risk of coming loose. Similarly, a removable prosthesis can cause pronunciation issues and be very uncomfortable.
In some cases, we can perform the immediate placement of a fixed temporary prosthesis on the same day as the implant placement, known as immediate loading. Indeed, this procedure allows for extraction, implantation, and placement of the prosthesis in a single session. Thus, the patient arrives with their compromised teeth and leaves with a fixed prosthesis on the implants.
Although this procedure is well described and codified, it requires certain precautions. Nonetheless, it remains the most comfortable option and does not present significantly more risks.
When can an implant-supported prosthesis be placed immediately?
Primarily, we can perform this procedure in two cases:
- Replacement of a missing tooth in the aesthetic sector (front tooth, visible when smiling: incisor, canine, premolar). The condemned tooth is removed, a dental implant is placed, and a temporary crown is screwed in at the end of the intervention or within the day. This procedure is comfortable and aesthetic.
Clinical case of immediate esthetic restoration of 1 tooth – In 1 day
- Replacement of all teeth in a dental arch. All teeth are removed, approximately 6 dental implants are placed, and a provisional screw-retained bridge is installed at the end of the procedure or within the same day. This procedure is comfortable and aesthetic.
Clinical case of immediate loading of a full arch – In 1 day
Advantages of immediate loading
With temporary removable devices, the patient is greatly hindered in their social life and chewing ability.
With this protocol where the prosthesis is placed the same day, the patient maintains comfort and aesthetics even during the healing phase.
